Welcome To The Udacity Sensor Fusion Nanodegree Program!

We are excited that you are here to learn about sensor fusion with Udacity! Sensor fusion is one of the most exciting fields in robotics. Industries as diverse as automobiles, surgical robots, agriculture, and atmospheric science all collect data from many different sensors. The engineers working in these fields have to "fuse" this data together to estimate and understand the state of the environment.

Sensor Fusion Examples

  • Self-driving cars fuse together data from lidar, camera, and radar sensors to understand the driving environment.
  • Satellites fuse together data from gyroscopes and positioning messages from other sensors in order to estimate their location
  • Medical devices fuse together data from different sensors and monitors to understand the health of an individual

The Sensor Fusion Engineer Nanodegree Program teaches the skills necessary to work as a sensor fusion engineer. The focus of this program will be on autonomous vehicles, which is a particularly exciting area for sensor fusion. As such, we will focus on how to work with lidar, camera, and radar sensors, which are three of the most important automotive perception sensors. However, skills from this program are applicable in a wide variety of domains.
